Il violinista sul tetto - Story

Italian version of the original Broadway production, "Fiddler on the Roof".

From a story by Sholem Aleichem, by gracious permission of Arnold Perl. "Fiddler on the Roof" is one of the masterpieces of the American musical theatre. It is the strory of Tevye, the milkman of the small village of Anatevka in Zarist Russia at the beginning of the 20th century. A surprisingly simple and wise character, full of kindness and faith in the human race, Tevye alternates amazing adventures with solitary monologues to God. He is surrounded by his wife, Golde, his marriageable daughters and a whole series of characters, the village inhabitants, rendered with singular and poetic humanity. A microcosm of people who live according to precise social and religious conventions, those of Jewish tradition, who face life with simplicity, with their joys and worries, till, in the bitter ending, persecution and exile arrive to their village.
