Platero y yo - Story

Platero y yo (Platero and I) by the Spanish poet and Nobel laureate Juan Ramón Jiménez, is an allegorical story about an unusual friendship between Platero the donkey and a poet.

In a journey through the soft Andalucian landscape, together with his faithful companion Platero, the poet rediscovers the places of his youth and with them – between illusions and certainties – a heart-rending sentiment of love for life.

Moni Ovadia, narrator, and Emanuele Segre, recognized internationally as one of Italy's most important concert musicians, take us through a selection of 13 pieces from Jimenez' beautiful lyrics set to music by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, the Jewish-Italian composer who took refuge in the United States after the Italian Fascist régime passed the Racial Laws of 1938.
